Today. How can I describe today?
Let's just say today I experienced something that has NEVER happened to me before and that will NEVER happen again!! I'm sure many of you have had this same experience. And may be an often occurrence for. But for me, it's not, and I think I almost had a heart attack.
Wednesdays I have started working at 9 am. (heaven). But since we did not work on Monday for the Holiday I had to come in at 8am. no big deal. I do it every day of the week.
So I went to bed at my normal bed time....12-12:30 am. Set my alarm for 6am. Fell asleep. And.....well you can probably guess what happened next. NOTHING!!! I never heard the alarm!! I was sleeping like a rock. My brother-in-law came in my room,..."Lanae, wake up. I don't know what time you were supposed to be to work." I sat Straight Up! Freaked out. And the next words out of my mouth, "What the Crap!! What time is it? What day is it?!" Jake stood there and said, "Um...Wed. it's about five min til 9am" I said CRAP! CRAP! CRAP! HOLY COW!
I JUMPED out of bed. paced my room for two seconds, still while said holy cow, crap, crap! Jake then said, "What time were you supposed to be there?" I said "CRAP! I was supposed to be there at 8am!!" He just stood there and looked at me with a face that says 'oh crap. you are LATE, you are dead meat'
I hurried and grabbed my phone called the office. Patty answered, I quickly and frantically responded with "Hey Patty it's Lanae. I totally just woke up. I'm SO SORRY! I have never done this before. I'm totally freaking out and totally embarrassed." She finally piped in to calm me down, and responded with, "It's ok. haha. It's ok. you're fine. We will figure it out. your patient is not here yet. I don't know what time Jamie is coming in, but we will figure it out." I again, said, "I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry! I will be there as soon as I can." She said it's ok. ok. we will see you soon" I dropped my phone grabbed my clothes, ran upstairs. practically threw my nephew out of the bathroom. showered in two minutes. got dressed. put my make up on. grabbed a muffin. and a dish of leftovers for lunch. ran out the door and drove 20 minutes to work.
I arrived to work with long hair down and dripping wet. I ran into the bathroom flipped my hair in a ponytail. and clocked in for the day. I clocked in at 9:30am. (Remember I was supposed to be there at 8am).
And what do ya know, my patient was there waiting for me. Awesome. Some employee I am.
News traveled fast around the office all day that Lanae slept in.... :) When they would ask me 'Lanae I heard you slept in today' I was would give them an innocent, yet embarrassing look, pause for a few seconds and admit, 'Yep! sure did!" and then of course laugh :) Later that morning Patty approached me about it again, I again said I was VERY sorry! She just laughed and said, "it's ok. It happens. We have all done it. I've done it. Jennifer's done it. We have all done it." I responded with a, "ya, but an hour and a half late?!?! Who does that?!?!?!"
At the end of the day I apologized to the Dr., he just looked at me, smiled, chuckled a little and said it's ok. you're forgiven. :) THANK YOU DR. ELISON! :) Man do I owe him big!
What a way to start your day. What a way to make your boss freak out. What a way to impress your boss. What a way to be a great, punctual person. It happens right? Wrong! At least not to me! That will surely be the one and only time I will ever do that!
My alarm clock is FIRED!!
